Independent watch dealers can be a collector’s best friend! Most are reputable businesses offering excellent service and competitive prices, although, as with any industry, it pays to know who you're dealing with.

For UK collectors, buying in the UK usually makes the most sense. However, if you regularly visit the USA, there are still some excellent deals to be had.

Even allowing for UK import VAT (20%), you can save the 7–8% US sales tax (depending on the state and how the watch is purchased). Which means you’re actually only paying 12% (£600 on a £5000 watch) to bring the watch back to the UK with you and obviously no shipping costs or courier handling fees.
